Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, has announced the appointment of Carsten Stoehr as Managing Director and Deputy Head of Asia Pacific. Stoehr, a former Credit Suisse banker with over 25 years of experience, will assume his new role on February 19 and will be based in Singapore.

Most recently serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive for Greater China at Credit Suisse, Stoehr was responsible for overseeing the bank's operations throughout the region, including investment banking, wealth management, and asset management.

Yuichi Nishimura, SMBC Managing Executive Officer and Co-Head of Asia Pacific, highlighted the bank's commitment to delivering tailored and innovative solutions to their financial sponsor, corporate, and private wealth clients as they continue to expand their regional and global platforms.

In its efforts to tap into the growing Asian market, particularly in private wealth and trading, SMBC has been actively recruiting talented professionals in the region. In late 2020, the bank appointed Jeff Ng to lead its Asia macro strategy for its global markets and treasury business.
