FTSE 100 Index Ends the Day with a 1.72% Increase

The U.K. stock market experienced gains as the FTSE 100 Index UKX closed up by 1.72%, reaching a final value of 7,464.99.

Top Performers Among FTSE 100 Companies

Among the constituents of the FTSE 100 Index, Ocado Group PLC OCDO emerged as the highest gainer on Tuesday, with its shares witnessing a remarkable increase of 5.45%.

Other notable performers include Persimmon PLC PSN, a residential building construction firm whose shares surged by 5.27%, and DS Smith PLC SMDS, a containers/packaging company that saw a rise of 5.12%.

Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC RR, an aerospace products/parts company, as well as Smurfit Kappa Group PLC SKG, a containers/packaging business, also contributed to the day's positive results. Their respective stocks recorded gains of 4.88% and 4.45%.

Largest Decrease

B&M European Value Retail S.A. BME, a mixed retailing company, experienced the largest decline among the FTSE 100 constituents, with its shares falling by 0.32% on Tuesday.

Pershing Square Holdings Ltd. UK:PSH, a closed-end funds firm, and Compass Group PLC CPG, a restaurants company, also experienced slight declines of 0.13% and 0.10%, respectively.

Noteworthy Losers

London Stock Exchange Group PLC LSEG, a securities company, and Dechra Pharmaceuticals PLC DPH, a pharmaceuticals firm, were among the top five companies with the largest decreases. However, their stocks showed minor increases of 0.22% and 0.37%, respectively.

Currency and Commodity Updates

The British pound rose by 0.06% against the dollar, reaching a value of $1.2610, while it experienced a decline of 0.22% against the euro, with a new value of €1.1622.

Furthermore, Brent crude rose by 0.4% to $84.20, and the yield on the 10-year gilt TMBMKGB-10Y declined by 1.660 basis points, settling at 4.426%.
