X, previously known as Twitter, is set to launch a test program called "Not a Bot" in New Zealand and the Philippines, aimed at combating spam, manipulation, and bot activity on the platform. This new initiative will require new, unverified users in these countries to pay a nominal $1 annual subscription fee. Through this program, users will be able to post and engage with other content on the platform. Existing users will not be affected by this change.

The primary objective of the "Not a Bot" program is to further strengthen X's ongoing efforts to maintain a spam-free environment while ensuring platform accessibility. X clarifies that this subscription fee is not intended as a profit driver; rather, it serves as an effective solution to combat spam and manipulation on a larger scale. The success of existing subscription options has prompted the development of this new test.

At present, it remains uncertain whether the program will extend to other countries in the future.

Elon Musk, who purchased X for $44 billion almost a year ago, previously suggested the idea of imposing charges on users to tackle the issue of fake and spam accounts. This latest test program represents an actionable step towards implementing his vision.

As part of X's current subscription plan, X Premium (previously known as Twitter Blue), users can avail themselves of enhanced features such as verification and increased visibility for their posts. This premium plan is priced at $8 per month.

Join X's "Not a Bot" program today to ensure an authentic and spam-free social media experience!
