European stocks ended the day in negative territory on Tuesday. The Stoxx Europe 600 index (SXXP) recorded a decrease of 0.24%, closing at 473.06. Among the major European indices, the FTSE 100 index (UKX) dropped by 0.48% to 7,558.34, the German DAX (DAX) fell by 0.30% to 16,571.68, and the French CAC 40 index (PX1) declined by 0.18% to 7,398.00.
Biggest Losers
Several constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600 index experienced significant drops in their stock prices on Tuesday. Evotec SE (EVT), a health care/life sciences company, saw the largest decrease of 8.3%. Stadler Rail AG (SRAIL), a road/rail transport firm, and NEL ASA (NEL), a company, both witnessed declines of 7.8% and 7.4% respectively. Ubisoft Entertainment S.A. (UBI), a gaming company, and Idorsia Ltd. (IDIA), a health care/life sciences firm, were also among the top five largest losers, with their stocks weakening by 7.3% and 7.2% respectively.
Largest Gainers
Viaplay Group AB Series B (VPLAY.B) emerged as the top gainer among the Stoxx Europe 600 constituents, with its shares skyrocketing by an impressive 173.4% on Tuesday. MorphoSys AG (MOR), a health care/life sciences firm, experienced a surge of 12.7% in its stock price, while THG PLC (THG), a retail company, witnessed a growth of 10.4%. Chocoladefabriken Lindt & Spruengli AG (LISN), a confectionery company, and Orion Oyj Series B (ORNBV), a health care/life sciences company, completed the list of top five gainers, with their stocks adding 6.6% and 4.9% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Updates
The pound (GBPUSD) depreciated by 0.57% against the dollar, while the euro (EURUSD) saw a decline of 0.63%. Brent crude (BRN00) experienced a modest increase of 0.79% to reach $78.77.
Bond Yields
The yield on the 10-year gilt (TMBMKGB-10Y, 3.800%) fell by 0.25 basis points to 3.801%, while the yield on the German 10-year bund (TMBMKDE-10Y, 2.260%) rose by 2.310 basis points to 2.26%.
